I've recently started chemo for Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I'm pleased to say that some of my nasty symptoms are improving. But my immune system is super low and my little girl who is 6 is constantly bringing in new germs.
I've just been released from hospital and am so torn between missing my little girl, and being exposed to her cold. It's her birthday today and she doesn't understand why she can't have a snotty hug with mummy.
How are other families coping?
Hi again Shoma I had the same problems with our granddaughters during my main chemo but also during and post my 2 Allogenic Stem Cell Transplants…..
The girls were all under 6 over the 2 years of treatment …… we just had to explain as simple as possible that grandad was poorly and it was important that they did not hug grandad when they had a cold, running nose or a cough as he could not catch a bug like the cold…… we never said that catching a bug would put me in hospital…… but when they were not showing and bugs and my blood counts were ok I still got a quick hug…… I have to say the girls were great.
It was more of a mental challenging time post my 2 SCTs as I was not allowed to be in the same room as our then newly born granddaughters for about 5 months as they were babies
Thanks Mike. It's so tough getting the balance right.
It is indeed a balance……. I just kept reminding myself that compared to the span of life…… this treatment time is a short bump in the road that needs to endured
