I am alone, I have lost my only companion, my dog, who passed away just before my first cancer diagnosis and I am carer to my 90 year old mother who is in early stages of Alzheimer's. I find it a big struggle, my mother won't accept help or care when I need to go for treatment so I have to try and hurry when I do have treatment or opt for the least time consuming treatment...I have two cancers, the first I was rushed into hospital as an emergency with no idea of what I had...I was in hospital for over two weeks and when I came home my mother hadn't washed or eaten much...she adds so much stress to an already stressful situation as now I have a second cancer that needs treatment. Keeping as positive as possible.
Hi DippyHippy
Sorry to hear about you, your mother and your dog (I don't know if you have seen our Animals are family too forum ).
Sometimes something can help when someone will not accept help is to get a care needs assessment - it almost sounds as if this is something you both might need. I am sure you are aware that stress is one of the least helpful things when you have cancer. You might like to try ringing the helpline here - 0808 808 0000, it is open 8am to 8pm 7 days a week and speaking to someone might help you feel as if you have just a little bit more support.
<<hugs>>
