Caregiving and employment down side

Hello. I hope I can reach out here, I have not found anything in the forums.

I am my wife's only caregiver. Her cancer was at bay for almost 3 years, now it's back again and spread. It was hard providing care and balancing work at the same time. I was let go from my job, so the search goes on. My unemployment benefits expired. I would like to know if anyone here has any ideas for work from home type jobs so I can be near my wife for caregiving and make a little money to help finances. I know this forum is based in the UK, but any ideas I could pursue the equivalent here in the USA. The new Chemotherapy drugs used this time has been bringing her down with no energy, worse than last treatment 3 years ago.
I thank you in advance for any advise or ideas you may have.

  • Hello

Welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although I am so sorry to find you joining us. I am Brian one of the Community Champions here at Macmillan.

I don't have an answer to your question, as I am unaware of the employment situation in the USA. As you are your wife's only care giver I can suggest you join our "Carers Only" group where you will find others in a similar situation - here's the link you need:

     Carers only forum

Once you click on the link I have provided and the page opens up - click on "join" on the black banner at the bottom of the page. You can then introduce yourself in the "New Here - Say Hello" section. You could copy and paste your post above or post something new.

    Good luck in finding something.

    Best wishes - Brian.
