Hi. I have breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy and my central lymph node removed 10 days ago. For about 3 days now my stomach is swollen, rock hard and it feels like o need to wee all the time. I’m awake every night wondering if the cancer has spread, or is this a common side affect?? Has anyone else experienced this?? Xx

  • Hi   and I see it’s your first post on the community so a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your concerns.

I know from experience having been on my cancer journey for over 25 years with two very rare, hard to treat types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas (one incurable) that navigating this journey can be such a stressful and challenging time and there are often issues and symptoms we don’t understand appear…….

In this circumstances you ALWAYS call your clinical team as they are the people best placed to advise you….. and let’s face it, they know you and your cancer best…….. so do call them this morning.

But talking with and getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend that you look to join and put up your own post in our dedicated……..

…….. support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

  • Thank you so much for your kind, supportive message. I am going to ring them at 9 this morning. Sending to you xx

  • Good plan….. and I see you have joined the BC group so you will get lots of support there.…… the problem with asking for opinions on here you may get some accurate information but more than often you get stories that just don’t line up with your actual situation.

  • Hi Daisy,  I had lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed but did not have your symptoms at all.  What did the breast care team say, sounds like you may have an infection.  Do you know what treatment you will be having?  Hope you feel better today.

  • Thank you for your message. I am beginning to feel a bit better. My team said it can be common to swell up after an operation. Said everyone reacts differently to surgery. I get the results of the lymph node biopsy 9/2/26 so depending on that will determine the treatment. How are you doing now? Xxx

  • Thank you for your messages and support. I’m managing to navigate around the site. Hope you are well xx

  • Hi, I had the same procedure as you a week ago today. Ive also has a swollen tummy, weeing a lot but Ive also had pain as well. I'm speaking to my nurse about it on Thursday.

  • Sorry to hear that. Mine is beginning to easy. Still there but not as bad. My nurse said it can be a side effect of the medication that was given during surgery and the pain killers. Hope it begins to ease for you soon too. Take care xx
