I've recently  found out I have tonsil Cancer early stages but I feel in disbelief  and broken .I ve been told it's fully curable and it will be treated  by 2 chemo sessions and 6weeks 5days a week of radiotherapy. All the side effects  are really worrying too .

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to you I know how scared you're probably feeling right now.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the head and neck cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi

Having cancer is bad enough without having to worry about the financial side of things as well.

You may not be aware but Macmillan have a team of money advisers who will check to see if you're eligible for any financial help. You can speak to them by phone from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, on 0808 808 0000. Clicking here will give you more information on how they can help.

  • Hi Perry, my story is similar. Out of the blue they found tonsil cancer which had spread to neck lymph. 3 chemo and 6 weeks of daily radiation. No real side effects during treatment, but they did start 2-3 weeks after treatment. Shingles - get the jab asap! , swallowing - get the PEG in (and keep it clean), spit drys up so taste goes and appetite and then just increasingly knackered. But by 6-7 weeks, PEG out, shingles calmed, taste (especially sweetness) returning, spit substitute at night and energy returning. I’ve just had my cancer 3 months PET and MRI scans so now waiting. For me, the physical stuff you just get on with and are well supported. It’s the emotional side that is the unknown and you feel a bit more isolated. I probably should have built a better support network for this side of things earlier. Wishing you well with the treatment.
