Sleep problems post bone marrow biopsy

Hi all,

I hoping it’s ok to post here.  I live in Scotland and in early December I had a bone marrow biopsy which was extremely painful and that was just at the numbing stage.  Obviously because I was so stressed the aspiration was also horrific.  I had gas and air but it had no effect on me at all, not sure why.  I have put a complaint in and written to my Consultant.  However, I am now left unable to sleep as I am ruminating about the biopsy 24/7.  Has anyone else had this problem and how did you get past it?

kind regards

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m sorry to read that you've been left unable to sleep after having a bone marrow biopsy. This isn't something that I've had so don't have any experience to share with you.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the group for your type of cancer so that you'll connect directly with others who may have had the same experience as you. As you haven't mentioned what type of cancer you're being treated for, I can't give you a direct link to the right group. You can either look through this list to choose the right one, or reply to me telling me what type of cancer you have and I'll then provide you with a link.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thank you for your reply.

I do not see my consultant until 22 January so no confirmed diagnoses at the moment.  Is there a general group for subjects that do not fall precisely into a group?

    Kind regards

  • Hi

There is a general cancer discussion group and clicking on the link I've created will take you there. Alternatively, you can can join the cancer group for the type of cancer your consultant is investigating before you have a diagnosis to get support if you'd like to.
