Hi All, my husband is currently undergoing treatment for Prostate cancer, whilst is malignant its not terminal. trying to get travel insurance and our current insurance runs out soon but they wont re insure him unless we can show the results of a recent scan. However the Dr says further scans are not necessarily given throughout treatment. Has anyone got any recommendations for travel insurance companies or had similar experience?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and having had cancer twice, I know how tricky getting travel insurance can be.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join us over in the travel insurance group where you'll find lots of recommendations for travel insurers to try.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined have a look through the threads there called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' and Recommended travel insurance 2023-24', which you'll find on the first page. They are full of recommendations from other cancer patients who have got travel insurance.

    Take care

  • Hello

I am Brian, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I am also in the 5th year of my personal Prostate Cancer journey.

I can see Anne ( has pointed you in the right direction of the travel insurance group and I hope you find an answer to your question there.

Your question is a common one asked on the Prostate Group here on the Community - and here's a link to that group which you may find helpful with your husband's journey.

I am a T3aN0M0 but with a biochemical recurrence so although with no spread I am likely to be on treatment lifelong. I have a worldwide travel policy and this question came up with my insurers. The answer for me was to ask my consultant for a copy of my up to date diagnosis and confirmation I wasn't due any scans and this was enough for the insurance company. Strange as it may be with a rising PSA sure enough I have had a recent CT scan.

    I hope the above helps.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hello

First, it's likely to depend on the treatment your husband is having. For example it's usually not possible to get insurance when undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy etc. (and often for a while after these have been completed) but it is often possible to insure when on treatment administered for a long time or lifelong.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016 and had RT / HT, finishing this after several months. Afterwards I could get insurance until the cancer recurred early 2024. I had triplet therapy involving chemo (completed September 2024) plus lifelong HT and darolutamide (aka incurable).

In early 2025 we wanted to go on holiday again but my previous insurer, a mainstream name claiming to specialise in medical conditions, refused to quote. After some research and recommendations I tried albert&eddie which is a comparison site and part of the same group that owns Insurancewith and Holidaysafe amongst others. I received reasonable quotes from these and took out a worldwide annual policy with Holidaysafe which I've just renewed at the same premium as last year.

You might like to give these a try, either online if you're uncomfortable with this by 'phone. If you're in any doubt how to answer any of their health questions it's best to 'phone to make sure you're providing correct and full answers.

You can also see others' experiences if you have a look on the travel insurance group suggested by latchbrook.

I hope you can get sorted.
