Went today for my first meeting with my amazing team at St Helens, we suspected stomach cancer but to be informed that I have a large GIST tumor on my stomach and spleen...tbh I've never heard heard of it before and was taken suprise. It is 22cm in size which is a whopper..but I still need a further biopsy and pet scan to see what it is up to and stage...lots to take in with mutations and types etc but every day is a school day ... Keeping positive albeit still a bit shocked...xx
Yes, I can imagine what a shock it must have been to think you were dealing with one cancer and then find out it was another.
As the online community is divided into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the soft tissue sarcomas group where you'll connect directly with others who have a GIST. To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
Wishing you all the best
