It’s all happening too quick

Hi!
my mum got her diagnosis in September of having stage 4 brain cancer. We’ve been told it’s the most aggressive kind. In October she was given the opportunity to have a good amount removed. After weeks of recovery we had an appointment with the consultant to discuss radiotherapy. After this appointment mums speech started to deteriorate and she ended up back in hospital.
We’ve been told because of the deterioration she is no longer having radiotherapy and there is nothing else they can do.

this is all happening so quickly and seeing my mum like this is breaking my heart. Mum came home and after 2 weeks of constant care day and night. Us as a family cannot do it much more and as of yesterday we all decided it was time for mum to go into a nursing home where she can get the care she needs and we can start going back to being her family.

I would love to hear others peoples stories if they are similar to mine. I’m feeling so lost and so guilty. I know this isn’t going to get easier but I would love to speak to people who have or had similar experiences.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to your mum I know how it affects the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the brain cancer group, as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your mum, and also the family and friends group where you can share your feelings with others who have a loved one living with cancer.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel up to it, it would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
