Hubby has Prostate Cancer.. very advanced with mets in all bones.....we are at nearly 4 years since diagnoses and thanks to Mindfullness and a natural upbeat disposition we're navigating it...no chemo, his first wife passed with Pancreatic cancer and the chemo was too intrusive...and too late.

Hormone therapy amazing...his experience at this point is Cancer, what cancer! Very tired and poor appetite.

Next hurdle...confusion....as a youngish chap (67) this is not what we were anticipating next.

My stress level going up again...love a good strategy..any suggestions welcome

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I have a different cancer to your husband I know how a cancer diagnosis affects the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the prostate cancer group, as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your husband, and also the carers only group where you can chat to others who have a loved one living with cancer. .

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hello and another warm welcome from me. Well my friend you could be writing about me, diagnosed nearly 4 years ago with advanced prostate cancer, not quite everywhere, managing on hormone therapy, just turned 60, making the most of life despite lessening energy levels and at times, motivation, also weighing up the benefit/cost of chemotherapy, my friend I have had memory and concentration issues for a couple of years, and find being active helps, as does dark chocolate, socialising, arts and crafts, family, and getting away. I don't know or wish to know how long I have, enjoying our time is what is important. PS we are on the Paris to Milan train on our way to Greece. As Anne has suggested the the prostate cancer forum is a great place to meet those who understand our situation.

    Eddie xx

  • thanks Eddie...and ENJOY.

  • Hi Eddie, just to let you know I'm thinking of you, I have prostate, diagnosed 3 and a half years ago, I feel on my own, but not lonely, there is a difference. Since diagnosis I have retired , and spend most of my time on my main hobbies, travel and photography. I also concentrate on mindfulness , and spend some time in areas that i find soothing, I'm lucky enough to live in a nice part of the country, (Dorset) so go to the beach a lot or Poole park

  • Hi Tony, I managed to retire 1 year before diagnosis, and I understand how being alone, needn't feel lonely, sometimes being surrounded by people can be the loneliest place of all. and I'm sorry you too have prostate cancer, but I'm glad you have your hobbies and practice mindfulness, travel and art are my coping mechanisms along with family, I was down your way 12 days ago, Puddletown, visiting family, and right now we're on the ferry to Patras. Dorset is beautiful my friend, but Yorkshire isn't too bad either. It would be nice to see some of your photos. Here's a couple of my pics

  •  That's good Patras  is Greece, I've never been there but have been to a few Greek islands, Skiathos, Aegina, Rhodes, Cephallonia  and Crete, plus some parts of the mainland, Cape Sunion is nice , enjoy your time there, I can't send photos as I can't work out how to send them, I will ask my daughter !!
