I found a lump in my armpit about a month ago and went to the GP the same week. I was referred to the breast clinic and have my appointment tomorrow . Although the initial lump can't be felt any more, the area in my armpit still feels different to the other side and I'm sure I can feel something there. At the clinic tomorrow will I be told if they think it's cancer from what they see on the ultrasound? Will they take a biopsy regardless of what they see?
How long have these appointments lasted for you? So many questions and after initially being quite calm, today I am petrified of what news I will receive tomorrow.
Hi Cocoapops8fcab1 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer when being recalled after a routine mammogram.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have been through the same tests that you'll be having.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When I went to the breast cancer unit I firstly chatted to a nurse who talked me through what would be happening. Firstly I had a mammogram and then a physical examination. This was then followed by an ultrasound where they could see a lump. I then had a biopsy of the lump and a final meeting with a nurse when she told me they were pretty sure the biopsy would come back as cancer.
It was nearly 4 years ago now, so I can't remember exactly how long I was there, but I think it was several hours as I had to go back to the waiting room in between each of the tests.
As for
Will they take a biopsy regardless of what they see
They will only take a biopsy if there is something to biopsy but they'll keep you informed all the way through.
Wishing you all the best for tomorrow
