Has anyone here used a Macmillan Radiotherapy Late Effects Clinic and do you know if they would accept referrals out of their catchment area?

I have radiation fibrosis of my shoulder and neck after radiotherapy 4 years ago  and need some help and advice, nothing at all available in Hertfordshire where I live.

  • Hi jambolino, and a warm welcome to the forum, but I'm sorry but I can't answer your questions, but why not phone the Macmillan helpline 0800 808 00 00 tomorrow, I'll tag  as being a champ has many resources to access.

  • Hi Eddie

I have already spoken to the helpline and they have sent me a list of radiotherapy late effects clinics but they all have catchment areas as essential criteria for using the service within their area. Wondering how flexible this actually is

  • Hi my friend, I don't know, but if you're surrounded by catchment areas, and you're in the proverbial black hole, you would hope there would be a little flexibility, as for alternatives, I  have my hospice to fall back on, which I hope isn't an option you qualify for.

  • Hello

Apologies for the late reply - I am on holiday - although today in Mablethorpe it's blowing a gale and it's rather wet so holiday involves lots of coffee and a good book!!

Thanks  for the mention. As far as I am aware your initial point of contact should be the hospital where the initial radiotherapy was given. If you don't now live in that area or they don't hold a clinic they should be able to point you in the right direction of your nearest available clinic and give you a contact.

I hope this helps and you get the advice you need.

    Best wishes - Brian.
