Hi everyone
I'm looking for some words of hope/experience, anything really I'm in a bad place at the moment
I'm 43, otherwise fit and healthy, 2 young children
I found out yesterday I have stage 4 bowel cancer, with x12 small liver mets (all under 1cm)
I'm meeting the ocnologist friday to discuss chemo, but the surgeon yesterday painted a bleak picture of my chances
I can't bear to think of my babies growing up without me, and am so worried about my husband
Hi Cheryl523989e66c0 and welcome to the community.
This really must have been very difficult news to take in and it will be very raw for you right now.
I had a different cancer, but I see you have joined the bowel group and made a post there. It’s a really good group to get lots of help and support and a many members there have gone through treatment for spread to the liver.
My friend court who is a fellow community champion, will I’m sure reply to you there-if you click on her name you can read the story of her mum who lived for 15 years with a stage 4 bowel cancer diagnosis with spread to her liver, which I hope will be of some comfort to you.
I really wish surgeons wouldn’t paint a bleak picture to new patients who are reeling from a difficult diagnosis. Bowel cancer can offer a lot of treatment options for a spread to the liver, and your oncologist will assess the best plan going forward with your treatment.
You are young, and you are otherwise fit and healthy, and these factors will stand you in good stead. Please do not lose hope-you need to process your diagnosis, and once you have your treatment plan you can focus on the next steps. Never give up that hope-you have young children and your husband to be your inspiration, and every incentive to keep going.
You can chat here any time, and if you are struggling to sleep we have a thread for chatting through the night too. The bowel group will allow you to connect with others with the same cancer who will know exactly what you are going through, and this chat group is here any time to give you some emotional support and friendship whenever you need it.
I hope that your next appointment will give another perspective from your oncologist and you’ll let us know how you get on. We’ll all be hoping for the best for you as you come to terms with everything.
Sarah xx
Thank you so much for your reply, it makes me feel less alone. Just getting ready for the oncologists, I'll log back on later XX
