Hi everyone,

I am waiting in results for my father. We recently (last week) found a large lump the right side of his neck. The hospital gave said that theu think it is cancer. He has had a CT half and then full and ultra sound with biopsy. We are waiting for results which should take 7 to 10 days. In the meantime this lump appears to be growing and my dad is becoming increasingly in pain. We have managed with cocodamol bit I think we may need something stronger. Should I take him to a and e this morning or continue to wait? It is awful going through this.

  • Hi  I see it’s your first post in the community so welcome but so sorry to hear about your father.

If his pain is getting worse you need to get him seen, be it through the medical professional who prescribed the cocodamol in the first place or indeed, go to A&E but it’s often best to call the NHS 24 line first as this reduces the excessive wait in A&E

Developing neck lumps can be down to many things, some not cancer but some can indeed be the sign of a number of types of cancers.

Should he eventually be diagnosed with cancer then you can have a look through this link Cancer Specific Groups where you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from family members who are navigating the same journey.
