Hi, My first post here.

the last few weeks have been a battle and a half but today we finally know that my Father has liver cancer that cannot be cured. It has been agreed that is health will also not be suitable for Chemotherapy. While we deal with this. We need to move them out of their 3rd floor flat (no lift) My mum is disabled, my dad until now has been her primary carer. they have been on the 'list' forever.

I have a letter from the consultant stating that a move is very important for his health but where do I send it? ive uploaded it so I can send to as many people as I can, but I am at a loss. The hospital don't really seem to know.

If anyone has any advice or have dealt with a similar situation, please get in touch.

thank you

  • Hello

I am sorry I can't offer any personal advice regarding this issue - I would try giving our Support Line a call on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week) I am sure they can point you in the right direction.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Sweetheart, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, and mum , and the awful situation you find yourself in. You need to contact your local councils, adult social care services, for an emergency assessment of his needs, and to see what is available for him. Get your GP to help, and along with your consultants letter push for a meeting ASAP, if your dad doesn't already, can I suggest you ask his GP for a referral to your local hospice and their palliative care team, as these can help with your case as well, and please don't be worried about having them onside my friend, their NOT for end of life only, I've had mine for nearly 2 years, and still doing ok, and wouldn't be without them. My best wishes to you all.

  • I am assuming your parents live in Portsmouth. This link hopefully explains the process. You might also want to get their local councillor and local MP involved. www.portsmouth.gov.uk/.../

  • This is great help, Thank you! I have submitted a form so hopefully that will help lead somewhere.

  • Hi Eddie, Thank you for your lovely message. sorry to hear you have struggles also. I believe he is being referred to palliative care. His appointment was yesterday so we will give a couple of days to see what has come through from that. A Macmillan nurse seemed very eager to get him signed up to everything he could be entitled to but just doesn't know where to go with housing. hopefully things don't take too long. Thank you again x

  • Your welcome my friend, and I've been in your position too, and the Macmillan nurse is right, take all the help your entitled too, as it will help so much with your dad's, care and your well-being. I wish you well with finding suitable accommodation for your dad, and the care he needs.
