Painful indigestion after 1st chemo?

Hi, can anyone give any tips on dealing with really painful on & off indigestion?

My partner had his first immunotherapy and chemotherapy last Friday (Durvalumab & Gem/Cis), he hasn't had as many side effects as we thought he'd have, other than fatigue and occasional nausea, until this afternoon when he started getting really bad indigestion. He's had lansoprazole and gaviscon advance & has been drinking water. Has anyone been through similar, did anything help? We've contacted his specialist and done what they've said, but wondered if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks so much

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I haven't had the same treatment as your partner, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

If you don't get any replies here, it might be an idea to also post this question in the two cancer specific groups you have joined. That way you'll connect directly with people on the same treatment for the same cancer.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your partner's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi After my first chemo I was the same but it was caused by diarrhea/constipation. I had to completely change my diet no spices, be ultra clean as your immune system does not have as many defences . no spices including garlic and ginger, no eating out, no fizzy drinks, alcohol, cream cheese, shell fish, cook everything thoroughly, wash hands, no out of date food, no salami. This is even though I have always had a robust system. They gave me meds for diarrhea and constipation and 7 weeks in and I still get occasional bouts but the change of diet works for me . I live on tinned tuna, eggs and toast

    Hope this helps
