Had 3 cancers and following surgery was given the all clear, but at the 12 month stage I was told that the cancer had returned. Not just one place but 6 different places, and yesterday I was told that my suspicions that I had bone cancer on the cheek bone was confirmed. My oncologist seems to be calling all the shots/treatments and they want to see how the new cancer will react to chemotherapy. The chemotherapy will not start for another 6 weeks and I am not sure that is the best option. The new cancer I has been visible for just 3 weeks and I know that surgery is a very good option. What are my rights, can I change who is leading on my treatment? Insist on surgery? Bit new to this….  Been given less than 12 months to live,  but the original consultant thinks I will have longer.

  • Hello Pete (

Welcome to Macmillan Cancer Support. I can't answer your question myself as I have a different cancer but we have a couple of dedicated groups you may wish to join and here's the links you need:

    Bone cancer forum

Living with incurable cancer forum - patients only

If you click on the links I have provided, once the link opens up, click on "join" on the black banner at the bottom of the page. You can then introduce yourself to the group by posting in the "New Here - Say Hello" section. (You can even copy and paste the above post).

I hope the above helps and if you need any help navigating the site please do let me know.

    Best wishes - Brian.
