Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hi, my husband has Stage 4 bowel cancer with peritoneal mets. He also has a permanent ascites drain from his abdomen. I'm think of booking him on a HBOT session and was wondering if any of you lovely people have had one of these or know some else who has. Do you think he'll be OK having a session with the drain? Thank you so much.

  • Hi  I have no idea if this would be a good idea or not or how helpful it would be…… but you do need to pass this past your husband’s clinical team to get their take on it.

  • Thank you, I would do that anyway but they're quite negative about alternative or complementary therapies. From what I've read, oxygen is good for repair and not so good for cancer cells?

  • A friend of ours had regular hyperbaric oxygen therapy lasting about 2hrs each session to (potentially) aid muscle recovery as he was a competing extreme endurance athlete (weight lifting etc) and had significant muscle damage…….

Apart from his muscle damage he is a very fit lad and I get the impression that being physically for is an important criteria to allow for treatment to go ahead……. It was recommended by his (what ever branch of medicine this comes under) consultant……. and it did make a little difference to him.
