Sorry if this has been posted before but there are too many posts for me to trawl back through.
I’ve just been diagnosed with cancer and am waiting for a treatment plan. I’m 42 and want to prepare for loss of hair on my head and face. I know that looking as normal as possible will help me keep my sense of identity during a horrible time.
I’ve started researching wigs but everything I’m coming across looks really fake and old fashioned. Does anyone have recommendations for suppliers of natural looking wigs, preferably where I can get an in person consultation? I’m in the Cambridgeshire area but can travel if it’s not too far.
I know it sounds superficial when it’s life/death but I don’t want to look in the mirror and not recognise myself.
Thank you x
Hi Bumblebee I lost my hair three times over my main 2 years treatment and never considered a wig….. although I am male and had a great head of silver hair this was low on my list of priorities….. so I can’t help you out with recommendations but let’s look for others to pick up on your post.
Its always good to compare notes with people who have been through the ‘exact same’ treatment as treatments do differ in how they affect the hair….. I see you have been posting in our Head and neck cancer group.
I would recommend that you put up the same post in that group as well as it widen your post to more people as this group does tend to be quite at times.
All the very best.
I have now lost my hair twice to chemo and totally understand how you feel, I have always had long hair and was quite vain with styling and hairdressers appointments, losing my hair did not worry me but trying to look like me was important to me. First time around I also lost my eyelashes and eyebrows, this time around my eyebrows have thinned a little but still have really good lashes. Eylure do some very good C curve lashes for people who have had cancer treatment.
I invested in a real hair wig and my hairdresser cut and styled it for me. I got mine from Pretty Little Wigs by Hollie, for real hair wig and without having to pay the VAT they are very well priced.
Good luck with the treatment.
