My husbands nurse completed an SR1 form for PIP,  he was already recieving lower payments due to stroke.

Hes been awarded the extra money on PIP but after Googling it says "if life expectancy is 12 or less" does this mean they think he'll be dead in 12 months?

We've never asked for prognosis.

Its shook me a bit he as recieved it...

As anyone done this & lived longer than 12 months? Its seems to given us a prognosis, he doesnt google, I do.

Can anyone shes any light on this please?

Thanks

  • Hi  sorry to hear about your concerns……. I have talked with many people on the community and actually know a few folks who were awarded this special rules (enhanced) benefit who are classed as having a terminal (incurable) prognosis….. and they have lived for much longer than the 12 months and one person is now on year three post being put on special rules.

I think you need to have a chat with his Nurse ((hugs))

  • TBH I couldnt speak to nurse about this in case she says something I dont want to hear.

I'll just wait & see if anyone else as this SR1 form x

  • Information is a balance.

I have been on my journey with 2 rare (8 in a million for the first and 4 in a million for the second) hard to treat (one incurable) types of T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas…… for over 25 years….. first diagnosed in 1999 at 44.

Back in late 2013 when my second type of T-Cell appeared my wife and I were clearly told that the plan that was now in place needs to work as if it did not, I would only have a few years on the clock……. so get your affairs in place.

It definitely focuses the mind being told this but so far so good.
