If you've experienced fatigue and got over it please read this!

I am in remission (ovarian cancer, op, Hipec, 6 chemo ) but have fatigue.  This is complete exhaustion if I do anything much.  If I walk uphill my legs are almost too heavy to carry me.  If I see people and do things then by late afternoon I am like a zombie, barely able to speak and yawning huge non-stop yawns.  This has been going on for months now and don't seem to be getting any better although all treatment finished 5 months ago.  I'm only 66 but feel 100!  I can't make my husband understand that this is so different from being tired.  I've been patient but that's wearing thin and now I'm just fed up and a little depressed.  I can't seem to find any info online about how long this fatigue lasts and if there's anything I can do to hurry it away.

Can anybody out there who has experienced this fatigue give me some hope?

  • Hi Spooks

I am almost 3 years post treatment for endometrial cancer. I had external beam radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery.

In my experience 5 months is still early days. I still have some fatigue but it is manageable most days now. I would say it was probably worse for the first year after treatment. Then just when I felt I was not getting any better- it slowly did improve.

You've had cancer and some aggressive treatments and it takes time to recover from them. Have you spoken to your Doctor about the fatigue? It may be worth asking for routine blood tests just to make sure nothing medical is adding to the fatigue. One blood test I had showed issues with haemoglobin and I needed a transfusion.

I will pop a link to some Macmillan info that will hopefully give you some ideas on managing the fatigue.
