Most comfortable car to drive to keep my independence

Hello everyone. I have secondary breast cancer in the bone. My lovely car, a Peugeot 207 that I’ve had for years, is now just too uncomfortable for me to drive. I’ve tried, and despite changing the seating position as much as possible, the seat is still quite low to the ground and I end up with aching neck, back hips. Can anyone recommend a small car that they’ve found comfortable to drive, with a supportive seat? Not being able to drive without ending up in pain is really restricting my independence, and I’m really struggling with that - I feel helpless and useless. I’d really appreciate hearing other people’s experiences. Thanks.

  • Hi theatregirl welcome to the forum..I'm.wondering rather than changing your car there are various adjustments to the seat that could potentially be made. I don't have a link to these but have seen them in others cars,  maybe a garage or if you felt able to give the Macmillan Line a call they could maybe offer some suggestions. 08088080000.  It seems such a shame to part with a wee car that you love but could be made better with seating adjustments. Best wishes and hope that you manage to find something that helps. Best wishes Gail xx

  • Hi theatregirl

I was finding that driving a manual car was too uncomfortable for me, so I got an automatic...a Kia Piccanto.

The seat is fully adjustable ( TBH, I think most cars have this now). I have heard several people recommend the Honda Jazz, mainly because I think it is slightly higher, therefore easier to get in and out. I really like my new car!

My only thought is to try out as many cars as you can, at the nearest garages. You could try contacting Motability....they may be able to suggest accessories for your driver's seat.

    Hope you find a solution!
