Pain management

I was discharged from hospital on Monday. I had been admitted for bowel obstruction and further tests. Had bowel stent fitted which relieved initial pain. I now have pain under my left rib and I know that I have issues with my spleen as a result of a tumour pressing on the organ. I saw a GP this morning and they have prescribed codeine. This is reducing the pain, but I haven’t been pain free now since Tuesday.

I still don’t have a treatment plan as I am awaiting biopsy results.

is there any advice on how to tackle this? I have contacted my macmillan nurse, but haven’t had a response yet.

Surely I won’t be expected to remain in this amount of pain long term?

  • Hi Wi11ow2025  welcome to the forum and sorry that you have not had a response as yet..I had a post typed to send but it seems to have vanished! I'm.wondering if you have had any further contact from anyone since you first posted ? I can't imagine that anyone would want you to be in so much pain. I'm hoping by the time you get this reply the pain is better under control and that you are recovering well..Best Wishes for now. Gail

  • Hi Gail,

I was sent back to hospital for further scans. They showed that my spleen is being crushed and that is causing the pain. The stent may also be playing a role.
I was sent home with morphine which has given some relief.
The pain has been better managed today with a mix of morphine, codeine and paracetamol.

Fingers crossed for it to settle down and a more comprehensive treatment plan in the coming weeks Blush

Thanks for checking in with me

  • That's great news and glad the docs have got it all sorted out for you.. Hopefully you get some major relief until a plan is in place for you.. Best Wishes for now Gail
