IS IT GOOD TO EAT EVERYTHING POST TREATMENT?

Hi everyone, I'm currently in my post treatment for mouth cancer. I did Radiotherapy (6 weeks) and Chemotherapy (2 sessions). My doctor told me to do some workouts but didn't advice me to avoid any food that's why I reached 90 kg for the first time in my life. But I still tried losing weight by exercising and had a strict diet. I'm at 80 kg now. My question, does anyone of you have the same advice from the doctor to just basically eat everything you like? I'm a little worried that I did a strict diet without my doctor's approval. Thank you to everyone who will take time to reply.

Best regards,

John

  • Hi

I hope you’ve had a chance to read the helpful replies to your post in the head and neck cancer group. As this is a “general chat” group here, the best place for response from those who have gone through the same treatment is the head and neck group.

I hope you’ll find the reassurance you need from those who have trod a similar path.

  • Hi Hope, I’ve had both Throat Cancer ( Laryngectomy) and Oesophagus and I was only restricted for a short time to soft foods but no one limited what I ate either what or how much, I still can’t get out of Cream habit to rebuild my weight, I went down to 60kg and am now up to 80- never been so heavy but I’m enjoying life and eating , my Oncologist even now never restricts she is so pleased and when I had the Food Police (Nutricia Nurses ) they said the same

So enjoy and stay well, Tony

  • Hi John, my husband has just finished chemotherapy for prostate cancer.  I know this is a different cancer to yours but would mention that he was just told to eat a normal healthy diet but to avoid certain foods, which are more likely to contain bacteria and increase the risk of infection and food poisoning.  Examples given were blue cheese, unpasteurised milk, live yogurt, raw meat and seafood, pre-cooked rice.  Also, to eat food hot, and not let it stand around at room temperature for a time.  (Some of those are advisable at any time, not just during chemo).

I wish you well with your treatment.

  • Hi, thank you for your reply. I'll be taking that into consideration.

    Thanks again!
