Hi,

After having almost a year out of work I have finally returned to work and 8 weeks in and I have encountered a few issues with aspects of my memory etc. My work involves doing lots of report writing, assessments etc but since coming back to work it takes me forever to write up reports and at times I struggle to find the words to put on paper, I am a lot more forgetful with tasks especially when multitasking or under stress and find that by the end of the week I am mentally fatigued. I know some of it will be simply getting back into work and the swing of things but I just wondered if anyone else is or having similar experiences and if so will it pass. I'm only in my 40s and don't think I'm starting with dementia but wonder if it could be post chemotherapy related. I finished chemo in Nov 24. I'm glad to be back in work but at times feel like I'm struggling and will never get back to how I was pre cancer. The memory/brain fog issues also happen when not at work but is obviously more evident when working and undertaking specific tasks

  • Hi  ……. from my long experience (been on my journey for 24+ years and had over 800hrs of chemo over a 2 year period) brain fog resulting in memory issues is real.

For a good 2 years after the end of my chemo I was always forgetting stuff and most activities that were not an issue before treatment just took longer and I often had to have stuff checked.

I am retired teacher, but I am a trustee for a large local charity with my main roll being Health & Safety and Child Protection……. so I was dealing with compliance and training…… but everything is now back to normal.

I used a note book a lot especially when I was being told stuff ensuring I had dates and what was said.
