Hello everyone

National Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Day is a day to celebrate and highlight everything that the cancer nursing workforce does for patients in the UK-wide health sector every day.

Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists are highly skilled professionals who provide expert care and support to patients throughout their cancer journey. They play a crucial role in coordinating and delivering personalised care interventions, addressing both physical and emotional needs. Our Macmillan nurses are Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Our Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line and on our Online Community Ask an Expert sessions are also part of this celebration.

Taking place on the 14th March this year, the idea for a national cancer CNS day was born out of the knowledge that the growth of the cancer workforce is not keeping pace with the increasing demand for cancer services.

It's also a great opportunity for us to celebrate any amazing Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists that have been involved in yours or your loved one's cancer care.

Do you know an amazing Macmillan nurse?

This includes nurses directly involved in your cancer care, or nurses who have supported you through the Macmillan Support Line or the Community's Ask a Nurse sessions.

Please reply below to tell us what made them special, or anything else you want to share in recognising the important work they do.

On behalf of CNS and CINS everywhere, we really appreciate you taking the time to contribute to the celebration.

  • Thank you so much to everyone who has taken time to celebrate and recognising these wonderful nurses.

Today is the big day and we're delighted to have a link to this thread from the page on the main Macmillan website.

Just to let you know, we have removed nurses surnames from this thread. We encourage the use of first names only here on the Community.

Please do keep sharing your commendations throughout the day, we'd love to hear from as many of you as possible.

  • I just want to say that having recently been diagnosed with breast cancer I have found Macmillan to be an excellent source of support, information and community. I attended a meeting at the Macmillan centre at Peterborough Hospital and they were wonderful. Gave me lots of information, gave me the pass for free hospital parking and told me about patient transport for treatment. They made me feel relaxed and part of a friendly, helpful community that will always be there for me. I can’t thank these wonderful people enough. They offer everything to make your cancer journey better and easier to bear. Thank you Macmillan Heart️

  • Hi I am now under suevei but my clinical nurse for colorectal cancer is Helen Brooks. This lady is amazing and gets back ASAP if we have a question or even just having bad thoughts and worried. We are able to access our cea bloods the following day by calling our specialist nurses saving weeks of worrying. If they have any concerns they are quickly sorted out with an appointment to see my consultant or even scans brought forward. I read many posts stating people haven't heard for weeks or even months about results but Lancashire Teaching hospitals specialist nurses always get back to us promptly. Helen is so dedicated. I feel safe and cared for by this wonderful lady.
