Side effects after treatment ends - sinus cancer

I’m almost 16 weeks out of treatment (Chemo-Radiotherapy) and have been managing the side effects the best I can.

i have no sense of smell at all, aside from the odd note of freshly sprayed perfume or air freshner, it is literally the smallest hint, not like I used to smell. I can’t smell anything to the point that toast could be burning and I’d be non the wiser. Has anybody had any luck regaining their sense of smell?

leaky nostrils and crusting? I’m assuming this one is also for keeps? See no evil I am doing multiple rinses, saline & xylitol + moisturising sprays.

I’m also experiencing issues with anaemia and my thyroid is under active. My GPs have been absolutely useless in treating me for this (diagnosed in December) every time I get in touch with them they send an email to oncology who then take weeks to reply then the GPs don’t get back to me. When I chase it up it’s always “oh we’ll have to wait for another reply” Surely this is not normal practice for these issues, a GP should know how to treat these issues?

I had an ultrasound scan on my neck yesterday for an enlarged lymph node, the person doing the scan checked my thyroid too and asked if I was on meds and said I should be. I just find it so odd leaving somebody to wait whilst struggling with these symptoms, has anybody dealt with anything similar?
i understand we have to wait for our bodies to heal, but these issues have a knock on effect for so many other issues and symptoms, it’s driving me nuts Grimacing

  • Hi  and I see it's your first post on the community so welcome.

As you wait for any replies from people who have navigated the same journey...... you may want to post the same post in our dedicated Head and neck cancer support group as this will open your post up to a wider group of people.
