Radiotherapy

At last my lung nodule is big enough for treatment. It is an escapee from my colon cancer which was removed January 2024. The nodule showed up on a scan and has taken nine months to be big enough to be certain it is cancer. I started preventative chemo after my colostomy but only managed three sessions before I ended up in hospital for ten days due to the effect on my stoma and lost 6 kilo.. It took a long time to recover and after a scan in October they removed lymph nodes nearest to the lung nodule which were clear. Finally after a scan in January the lung nodule grew slightly and I had a bad experience with a biopsy that caused pneumothorax so got stuck in hospital two extra days on oxygen and bed rest. Finally this week my oncologist confirmed it is cancer but still small. She said she would send me to the private hospital for radiotherapy as ours does not have the machine. Well the next day they gave me appointment and today I have been for preparation for radiotherapy to start beginning next month.

I should be worried but it is such a relief to finally know what that pesky nodule was and it will be gone very soon. It is the not knowing that causes so much anxiety.  Tiny nodule caused more problems than the original colon cancer which my oncologist never mentions! I have got so used to my stoma I am not so sure about a reversal. I would be interested to hear if colostomy reversals are successful  and also from anybody about lung nodules.

  • Hi

That sounds like very good news that your lung nodule can now be treated.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I thought I'd pop on to suggest that you also post this in the bowel cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have had lung nodules following a diagnosis of bowel cancer.

As you also mentioned wanting to hear from anyone who's had a colostomy reversal, can I also recommend that you join the ileostomy, colostomy and stoma support group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
