I have my long awaited oncology appointment next week to discuss my treatment plan. Iam having chemotherapy first for breast cancer.

Are there any questions anyone can recommend would be good to ask during this meeting. I'm so nervous and I'm finding it difficult to concentrate on what I should ask so I thought I would come on here first and ask.

  • Hi

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I just popped on to suggest that you might benefit from joining and posting this in the breast cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others with the same type of cancer as you.

If you'd like to do this, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

You might also find this information from Macmillan about questions to ask your healthcare team useful.

I met my oncologist for the first time after I'd had a lumpectomy for breast cancer. He went through everything in detail and gave me lots of paper information to take away so I didn't really need to ask him any questions as he'd covered everything.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
