I have had tests and scans since December and am now waiting for the results for colorectal cancer. I’m 47, 2 kids 21 son autistic and daughter 29 adhd.. I am petrified waiting for the results because my mum and birth dad both had bowel cancer. They survived but my mum then died of womb cancer. I’m trying to be positive for my friends and kids but it’s harder. One of my letters said rule out lower gastrointestinal cancer but my nhs notes say suspected colorectal cancer. I have no other family and a few amazingly good friends I trust with my life but they have all recently lost a parent to cancer and I don’t want to bother them. All they say is I’m sure it will be fine don’t worry. Positive thinking. But I want to know what I’m feeling is normal. Is it ok to be worried so early in? I mean I prob will be ok but what if I’m not?
Hi MarieC77 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and of course it's normal to be worried ahead of getting your results. I doubt there's anyone in this community who wasn't.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who will have had the same tests as you.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your symptoms and tests to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Thank you so much. I will definitely update my profile. And thank you for the recommendation, I shall have a look xx
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
