I have just had laproscopic hysterectimy to remove womb/ ovaries etc for grade 1 stage 1A endometrial cancer. All went well as far as I know. I have read that following hystology it maybe that I will be advised to have radiation therapy. I have read that  radiotherapy doesnt prevent reoccurrence, can damage currently healthy cells, can not be repeated in the area given if cancer does come back and doesnt stop cancer reoccurring elsewhere in the body therefore is it actually worth the risk? Has anyone who was offered radiitherapy as a preventative treatment refused it? If so what was the result/reaction? Where you offered an alernative preventative treatment? . At the moment I am thinking of refusing the radiotherapy . If I do initially refuse but then change my mind what are my options?

  • Hi

I’d recommend you also join and post in the womb group, and the link is here-

    Womb Cancer

There are lots of discussions there about radiotherapy where others share their experience of having this treatment, and discussions from those who are unsure about going ahead with it.

I had radiotherapy for cervical cancer, so mine is a different scenario, but I’ve never regretted having it. I wanted to do everything that was suggested to me in the hope of giving myself the best possible outcome.

If you chat with the lovely ladies in the womb group, they will be able to share their experiences and this might help with your decision.

Best wishes for your recovery from surgery.

    Sarah xx

  • Thank you I will try posting in womb group too xx

  • Watching this as I am at exactly the same point right now. Thanks for sharing your worries as I thought I was just being scared and unreasonable!

  • Sorry to hear that. I’m still up and down with the worry and uncertainty. I had a  partial result from histology yesterday which confirmed grade and staging as 1 and 1A respectively but they have sent back to pathologist to look again as it was not fully clear as to whether there were any cancer cells in a capillary so now have to wait again. Depending on results they may offer radiotherapy. I am still not sure I want to have radiotherapy. I will look at all options and risks of each option once I know.

Hope all goes well for you and although we are probably both not feeling it at the moment I hope you have a Happy Christmas.
