Hello I just want to know if anyone can advise or help me. My mam was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer nearly two years ago that has travelled to her liver and lung. She is on chemo tablets that have amazingly kept it stable for this long. I pray it continues however in all this time my mams anxiety and fear has consumed her. She can hardly get out of bed some days. She is 75 but has always been active and full of life. My sister and I feel the mam we knew disappeared two years ago. She is a shadow of herself with this crippling fear and anxiety. . We are strong for her and she has seen many counsellors but if anything we have noticed lately more of a deterioration and we just can’t help. I don’t know what I can do or even if there is anyone that could help her as the fear may not leave her. She does take tablets but feels these make her more sleepy. I know I can’t fix her and I know she wants hope, she wants to hear that someone has been living with her diagnosis more than 2-3 years, which was her prognosis. She isn’t living, she is just existing. I feel useless to her today which I think is why I felt the need to write on here. I’m at a loss to what I can do for her
Hi Subshine9 welcome to the forum.. That sounds very difficult for you and I'm not sure what to say to be of much help. I think you are completely right your mum is existing and not living. That said there is a limit as to what you yourself can do, as it is your Mum that needs to do things. You sound like you have been trying to do your best in the most difficult of situations. It does sound like treatment is keeping things stable and lots of folks don't get that do it's a shame your mum is not living her best life. You can't change any of this so don't be too hard on yourself.
