Could it be pancreatic?

Hi everyone hoping that this is OK to post. Don't know where else to turn.

My mum has been having upper left side pain, almost under shoulder blade for about 6 weeks now.. it's tender to touch.

She went to GP a while ago and they sent her for blood tests, all clear apart from blood sugars raised .

They referred her for ultrasound scan which is happening this week.

She went again to doctors today because the pain is still there. They did urine tests and it showed sugar urine.

GPs keep saying muscular but I have done a Google (I know) and the symptoms match up to pancreatic cancer so now I am in a panic. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Thank you

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

It's natural to be worried about your mum's symptoms and I have included a link to Macmillan's information about the symptoms of pancreatic cancer. You will see that it says "Most people with these symptoms will not have pancreatic cancer. More common conditions can cause them. But if you have any symptoms, it is important to get them checked by your doctor," so your mum has done the right thing by seeing her GP.

I don't have any experience with pancreatic cancer, so don't know if your mum's symptoms point to that, but the online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the pancreatic cancer group so that you can ask questions about symptoms there.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your mum's symptoms and tests to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
