Hi everyone,

I hope it's ok to post here. My dad has been in hospital for the last 2 months with confusion, which was thought to be because of his diabetes. We've spent weeks trying to figure out what's been wrong with him and amongst other issues it's now been found that he has tumours which have spread throughout his body.

He has pneumonia at the moment and it's thought that when / if he can get through that he will then come home for palliative care. I'm writing this mostly as a place to process this news but I also wondered if anyone had any advice about what we need to do now as a family, how is it best to cope and if there is anymore advice. At the moment I feel incredibly lost, angry, and mostly confused as to how we could get here so quickly.

If you can offer anything that would be appreciated, thank you.

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the Macmillan Online community and I am so sorry to find you here. It does appear to have taken some time to discover dad's issues. The best 3 pieces of advice I can give you from what you have said is:-

    * Is there a Macmillan centre at your hospital - is so contact them for assistance.

    * Do you have local "Maggies". This is a cancer charity for all the family where you can drop in, have a cup of tea and discuss your problems - here's the link to find your local "Maggies" - https://www.maggies.org/

    * Give our support line a call on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week) - they will have plenty of advice for you.

I do hope this helps - if I can do anything else for you please let me know.

    Best wishes- Brian.
