Hi, on Wednesday (my 24th Birthday) my dad was diagnosed with hairy cell leukaemia and I know this is the beginning of a very hard journey. Im not ready to see him at his lowest and Im honestly scared for him. I havent been through someone fighting against cancer. My grandad had lung cancer but chemo wasnt a option as he was too old and him passing was a really bad time for me. He was a second dad to me and now, my dad is going through cancer and Im not ready to see him really ill. I'll be here every step of the way but Im so angry at the moment.. Hes been through so much and I wish it was me going through it and not him. Im grieving the life we had before cancer and it just feels like history repeating itself. Any advise would be amazing. Thank youxx
Good Morning becksferris
A warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community. I am so sorry to find you here. I have a different cancer myself but I am aware that "hairy cell leukaemia" is one of the rarer forms of leukaemia.
The online Community is divided up into various cancer specific support groups and I would advise you to join the following forums for the best support and here are the links:
Leukaemia forum and Carers only forum
To join these forums, just click on the links I have provided and once the page opens up click on "join" on the black banner at the bottom of the page. You can then introduce yourself bu copying and pasting or reposting your original post in the "New Here - Say Hello" section.
There is also our support line on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week). They are a great crowd and will be able to offer you some further support.
I do hope the above helps, if I can do anything else for you please don't hesitate to come back to me.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi becksferris just to had to my friend Millibob post you may want to join our dedicated…..
support group.
These 3 types of Leukaemia’s are in a separate group mainly because they do not tend to react in the same way as the other main Leukaemia’s…… as in Heamatology terms hairy cell leukaemia is often seen in the same light as slow growing Non Hodgkins Lymphomas…… yrs very confusing.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
