Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to ask this. I'm awaiting results of a lumpectomy and sentinel node removal. I'm normally a worrier/anxious person but since the cancer diagnosis it's rocketed. I have started with a niggle in a tooth, my dentist is nearly 2 hours away and it's always an appointment to look at the tooth and another for treatment. I can't register with a nhs dentist locally. My husband is due surgery on his shoulder in a few months and will be in a sling for 6 weeks. I don't drive and am worried sick about future visits. Can the breast clinic do a referral to a local dentist, guess I'm just clutching at straws but my teeth are weak and are constantly being worked on. So sorry for the long post.

  • Hi  sorry to hear about your dental problems.

I would call your Breast Cancer Clinic…… specifically if you have a nominated CNS (Cancer Nurse Specialist) and talk through the problems.

I have a completely different cancer but I needed some urgent dental treatment before I went on to have some full on treatment so my clinic (Heamatology) arranged for me to be seen at the dental unit at the hospital I was bending treated at.

  • Thank you so much. I will speak to my breast care nurse. My teeth are crumbling and it's a constant to and fro. Sending you my best wishes.

  • Hey, I totally get why you're feeling anxious. It's a lot to deal with.

Why not ask your breast clinic if they can refer you to a local dentist? Worth a shot, right?

Also, you might want to look into local dental clinics that do emergency appointments. Private dentists might offer NHS services too.
