Dear all,
I am new to this forum and it has been so helpful in reading up on everyone's traumatic journey and fight against their cancer.
In terms of staying positive and nurturing, how do you maintain this? How do you 'kick its arse' and over come negative emotions running wild and being out of control.
Doing my best to stay in control of positive vibes but, there are times I just want to give up and let 'doom and gloom', take over.
Hi March and this is a good question……. I often think that the journey at times depends of the type of cancer you have, stage and treatments……. so for a like with like comparison you may want to post the same question in the Breast cancer support group to get comments from people on the exact same journey.
I have been on my cancer journey for over 24 years with an incurable but treatable ‘very rare’ type of Lymohoma (blood cancer)…. Over the first 15+ years I only was ever in partial-remission the longest being about 9 months before going back on the treatment rollercoaster……
I had to quickly learn to be able to control the noise between my ears…… as if this was left to get out of control any positivity and good news…… would be overshadowed.
My amazing Specialist Cancer Nurse (CNS) of many years was thankfully very blunt and honest….., I did appreciate this and went is came to any anxiety of waiting for results, scans and the post treatment ‘what if’s?’ she told me…… The ‘cancer anxiety train’ is always sitting in the station....... but we can only get on it if we go to the ticket office and get a ticket....... don’t go in the queue and get a ticket…… go into another queue for something that you enjoy, that will distract you and that will bring joy and peace……. Mike you can throw all the stress and anxiety you can must up at this but the only thing it will do is make your stress and anxiety worse and then you get sick”
The people you talk with us important….. this site will help but talking with people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
((hugs))
