Good Evening Everyone

Anyone had the same experience  ?

Diagnosed with Early Invasive squamous cell carcinoma cervical In Feb. 1st Colposcopy and LEETZ procedure done end of March. Since then, had a check up, and they still need to remove more of the area. I was told that the consultant that did my 1st Colposcopy, didn't remove enough of the area, for biopsy. I was also told, this Is standard procedure. I cant understand why It wasn't removed the 1st time. Do I have the right to be upset about this? I know I should be appreciative, of the treatment,  but all this time, I've not known this Information. Any advice appreciated Thanks Emma

  • Hi Emma, oh what a shame. I had this cancer in 2021 and like you, I also had to go back again and have more removed. It sounds to me like it’s been presented incorrectly though, it’s not necessarily that the 1st person did a bad job, but sometimes when they remove it they don’t have ‘clear margins’ (and the doctors can’t see this when removing tissue) meaning the cancer cells extend to the edges of the tissue they removed. This is what happened to me so I had to go back and have another LLETZ under general so they could take even more. After this one I was warned they may even need to do it again if not clear margins but luckily mine was clear after the second time. My oncologist told me they do up to 4 LLETZ’s looking for clear margins before they do the next step.

I can understand you are upset though as it’s an unpleasant procedure and I took a while to heal after the first one so I was disappointed to have to go through it again. But luckily my recovery after the second attempt was much quicker and I had clear margins then and have been in remission since (just for my 2 year all clear last week actually).

Good luck with it and happy to chat if you have more questions.

  • Morning

    Hope you're doing well

Ever so sorry for delay in replying, just moved house,  and partner also has cancer. So all very hectic  !!

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, as I  understand the reasoning behind it now. Only thing thats worrying me, Is the fact that since Feb , I've been left with the tissue, that needed removing. And wondering if it could have made things worse, bu leaving it there.

Sorry to sound negative, Im just concerned tbh.

    Warm Regards
