Hi everyone.

my 76 year old mother has suspected lung cancer but is still undiagnosed and so also untreated nearly 2.5yrs down the line. She’s had so many tests, biopsies and ops but they all come back inconclusive. She’s now so ill that she can’t walk, sleep properly, eat or breathe normally. She’s a shell of her former self and has said she wishes she could just go to bed and not wake up. It’s heartbreaking. She lives on her own, has no friends anymore and I live a long way away and have young kids, so can’t visit as often as I’d like. I feel like the nhs has failed her…that because she’s older, they are not treating it urgently. What can I do please to help her? I feel so useless and frustrated.

  • I’m so sorry to read your post and can feel your desperation. Have you thought about talking to Macmillan? They’re not just there for cancer patients, and can likely offer you some practical advice. I’m very aware of how difficult it is for families, especially when they don’t live close by. My own family live several hours away by car, and I’m no longer able to drive to visit them. I consider myself to be fairly positive, but have had days when I’ve not wanted to wake up. Please do reach out to the professionals. Your mum needs local, practical support. This is too much for you to take on. Sending you lots of love.

  • Thank you so much for replying. I will indeed try getting in touch with MacMillan. I can’t believe how hard it is to get social help for adults Disappointed

I’m so sorry to hear that you’re suffering too and am sending lots of love back.
