When newly diagnosed I told an immediate family member & expected her to tell her spouse, then her children were told & their partners all within days of my diagnosis & without checking with me it was OK.  Then after being assured no one else would be told, extended family members were told.  When I complained & referred to it as a breach of trust, they said they did it to expand my support group .......... despite me having no regular contact with the extended family members who had been told.  This all happened within 10 days of my diagnosis, when I was still coming to terms with the diagnosis & all & scans / surgical discussions had yet to take place.  Have any others in the group felt their privacy has been trampled on by family / friends?

I've had all my breast cancer treatment now & am well, just the yearly check ups, but I am struggling now to confide in anyone about anything..

  • Hi DIYFanatic welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear about what has happened for you and how that has left you feeling. Its so difficult when we share things hoping that it will be kept in a close circle of those "in the know". On this occasion that hasnt happened and I can appreciate that you feel that your trust in others has been affected by that . Maybe that is not the person to share things with and you will know what friends you can trust and which you cant, but maybe its worth pre checking with them that what you share goes no further and then there should be no excuses nor repeats of what has happened for you

I am so very sorry that this has happened for you and shook your trust in others.

Sending some huge big hugs your way for now. xxx
