Hi, just enquiring whether anyone has successfully had a portacath inserted/maintained on the NHS in Scotland?

How did you approach your oncologist, matron with your request.

Or did you go private for the procedure (if so, where and what your experience was like).

Was you supported by your team to move towards insertion or portacath when you suggested it?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join and post this question in the group which relates to the type of cancer that you have. You could either reply to my post and tell me which sort of cancer you have, and I could then give you a direct link to the group, or you can look though this list to choose the relevant one.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thank you, triple negative breast cancer

  • That's the same type of cancer that I had.

Here's the link to that group and also to the main breast cancer groupTo join both or either of these groups just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start new posts like you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
