So I had my first Iv chemotherapy session 4 hours then walking out of the clinic I started feeling strange and coughing then I couldn’t breath

i was very scared as I could breath properly the resus team came and took me to a and e luckily I was ok afeet being monitored for 24 hrs.

I had a severe allergic reaction to the chemo anaphalaxis so can’t have chemo again

has anyone else been through this

many thanks

  • Sorry to hear this  over the years I have been volunteering on the community I have talked with a number of members and seen posts from members who had different cancer types that unfortunately experienced the same problems.

Over my many years I have had over 800hrs of various types of chemos and before I was given any IV chemo I always had to have significant amounts of antihistamines as I have significant allergies…… but even with this I still had a few problems

I hope a way forward is found for you.

  • Thank you for the reply it’s nice to hear that they gave you antihistamines before your treatments

  • Drug allergies are always one of the main pre treatment checks that are done before any chemo treatment is done as some of the chemos used for blood cancer can be very strong Smirk
