Cancer Paranoia

Hi all

i was diagnosed with high grade, Stage 3/4 Kidney cancer a few months ago and have since had my kidney removed etc.

Overall I’m dealing with most things fine, but what’s really getting to me is the paranoia. Every time I get an ache or pain in my torso my brain immediately thinks the worst and that it’s spread (I had a scan onky 2 weeks ago so we do have a decent idea of where it currently is). I just can’t help it, and it is making me dwell on all the little aches and pain middle age causes far more than usual.

Has anybody else had this problem, and what sort of things do you do to help deal with it? It’s driving me crazier than the actual cancer I know about!

Thanks :)

  • Hi  and well done coming out the other side....... but the noise between the ears can carry on for a long time.

First you may find it helpful to make a cuppa and have a look at this great paper After Treatment Finishes - Then What? by Dr Peter Harvey as it highlights the post treatment milestones.

I found 'talking' to like minded people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as I found the support from these folks to be amazing.
