Hi I posted a few weeks ago about my husband being investigated for neutropenia/pancytopenia. To cut a long story short he ended up in hospital with pneumonia and neutropenic sepsis. Thank goodness after a lot of praying and fantastic hospital intervention he is recovering well. However we have an appointment tomorrow with the haematology consultant to discuss results of the bone marrow biopsy. If our worst fears are confirmed and it turns out to be blood cancer, is there any specific questions we need to be asking? I have several questions already but don't know if we've missed something vital that we need to ask? thanks in advance
Hi again Sapphire_24 and sorry to hear about your husband having had been in hospital.
As to questions this link (Questions to ask your medical team about Lymphoma) will help you ...... but they are focused around Lymphoma but the basics questions are the same.
All the best for tomorrow.
Hi Mike Many thanks for your response. It's been quite a rollercoaster since I was here a few weeks ago. Who'd have thought a simple cough could've turned into something so nasty. Even a trip to the dr and prescribed amoxicillin didn't help. Amazingly my husband came through the pneumonia and neutropenic sepsis and is currently shielding under instruction from the hospital pending his appointment tomorrow to get results of the biopsy. We'll be working on our questions tonight. Thanks for your contact.
From my experience Haematologists tend to be very thorough in the u fir stun they give but it can go over your head so do remember to but in and ask them to put ‘their’ information into a language that ‘you’ understand,
Do also ask for booklets/information so you can read up and remember to ask ‘what is next?’…… next appointments?…. next tests?….. treatment (get the exact name of the treatment)
But be prepared for not actually getting a clear answer and having to have more tests.
Hi Mike
Thanks for your time and advice yesterday. Sorry if I posted on several forums. Still trying to work out how posting works and where I should post.
The diagnosis on my husband's biopsy results is hairy cell leukaemia, which whilst rare apparently, has a good prognosis for recovery. As he's recently been in hospital chemo will start later this month to give him time to get over the pneumonia. It's not fantastic news as leukaemia sounds frightening but at least we know what we're dealing with and that prognosis is good. cheers Sapphire
Hi again, hairy cell leukaemia is very treatable and has a good prognosis for recovery.
