Seroma problems

I was diagnosed in June with invasive ductal carcinoma which is also triple positive.  Have completed 6 rounds of chemo and had surgery just before Christmas.  I have just been told I need further chemo as the core taken showed signs that the tumour had fractured although margins were clear.  I will be seeing oncologist shortly although treatment I will have will be Kadcyla.  My problem at the moment though is that I have developed a large Seroma at the surgery site under my arm.  This has already been drained once by consultant radiologist however has refilled and is larger than ever and seems to be getting bigger each day.  Surgeon is reluctant to let me have it drained again.  Has anyone else had this problem and how was it resolved?  Sorry for the diatribe.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you have a seroma which keeps filling. I didn't have this problem but I know that it's very common.

As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups so can I suggest that you join and post this question in the breast cancer group as then you'll connect directly with others who have had the same problem as you.

To join, just click on the link I've created which will take you to the group. You can then start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'. To save you typing all this out again I'm sure you'll be aware that you can simply copy and paste it into your new post.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
