6 weeks ago out of the blue ,few issues with swallowing, now diagnosed with terminal osophogues and liver cancer.

spoken to macmillan, they are great, today i see  a consultant, presumably to see about chemotherapy etc.

turns out i have private medical insurance to cover treatment but im worried as i dont want to lose the back up of the nhs, even though i will be on a waiting list..

any thoughts please?private or nhs..

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you have recently been diagnosed with oesophageal and liver cancer and it's natural that you want to explore all available treatment options.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to suggest that you also join and post in the oesophageal cancer group and either the liver cancer group, if it's a primary cancer, or the secondary liver cancer group, if your oesophageal cancer has spread to your liver. You'll then connect directly with others who may have had to weigh up the benefits of having treatment privately against using the NHS.

If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the links I've created which will take you to the groups. You can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
