Hi, my wife was just diagnosed with stage 1b cervical cancer by gynachologist.

We are terrified of the MRI today and CT to come and she believes it will have spread.

We don't have kids (but want them) and had a difficult family bereavement a couple of months ago.

The stress is awful as.were the appointments i went to with her.

Is there hope? Is there advice?

She is my world.

  • Hi  I see it’s your first post so a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your wifes diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but I do hope you will find the Community a safe place to get support from family members who are navigating the same journey.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our general Cervical cancer and General Carers only support groups where you will connect with others dealing with the same challenges as a parent or while supporting family

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) links I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.

I have been on my incurable blood cancer journey for over 23 years and have faced some very dark times but I am still here living as good a life that any 67 year old can live - my main mind set has always been ‘there is always hope until it runs out’….. and so far so good.

Please do get back to me if you need further help.

  • Hi

I see that you have joined the cervical cancer group, so please feel welcome to make a post there. We have lots of ladies who’ve gone through various forms of treatment for different stages of this cancer and you will receive lots of advice and support there as you go through this with your wife. And there are also many stories of success and hope which may help you deal with the diagnosis.

I hope to connect with you there when you feel able to post.

  • Hi,

We have just had the diagnosis last week and gyno susoects stage 1b cc. We had mri yesterday and awaiting ct scan. Initially told to suspect combo of radio and surgery. Terrified the impaxt stress having on my wife.

Desperately want to get treatment started to give her best chance of full recovery. We don't have kids yet due to high pressure job and having had to care for an elderly relative. We had hoped to start trying next year and im so qorried we will never get that chance now.

However my primary and sole focus is my wife's wellbeing. She is my world and i hate sering her scared and crushed. She has no immediate family support so its really just us and some friends.

    Thank you for reaching out
