Planned operation cancelled

Today received a call to cancel my operation which was  planned for tomorrow. The reason being staffing levels would be unsafe due to the nursing strike. It is extremely difficult to keep a positive mental attitude as now the operation is unlikely to be until January  and  I feel back in limbo land after gearing up ready for tomorrow.  Wondering how many others are likely to be in the same position.

Realise this isn't a forum for politics, however I blame the government for the underfunding and refusal to engage on all NHS issues and not the strike. Apologies if this is an inappropriate post. Confused

  • Tessdog your feelings are very normal, I'm a nurse (not registered anymore) and have every sympathy for them, in fact I'd be on the picket line with them!

But... When it comes to our own health we just want it sorted right now. What operation are you waiting for hon?

And it's not an inappropriate post at all.

  • Morning

Thank you for your reply. I have breast cancer. I'm due to have a lumpectomy and axillary lymph nodes dissection.

  •   this is so frustrating but lots look forward this to get back on track quickly.

I see that you have not joined our supportive Breast cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the Green (Bold) Group Link I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go.

  • That's a horrible scary position to be in and I'm sure it's affected lots of people Tessdog.

That awful feeling of fear and helpessness that the possibility of cancer can bring means we do just want answers right now so we can get on and deal with the outcome whatever it may be.   You've most probably put yourself forward for cancelled places that may occur?

I had a long wait between the diagnosis of my initial mole removal to my further surgery to stage my melanoma, April to July.  It one of the hardest things we do- wait.  We wonder if the waiting makes it spread quicker or if the wait changes the treatment options.  My heart goes out to you hon-, hang on in there xxxx

  • Hi Allotment lover

Thank you for your kind words. Luckily I've had a call today to schedule the op for tomorrow with a different surgeon. Fingers crossed. I hope you are better. Best wishes.

  • Hi TessDog that is fantastic news and so glad things are  now happening sooner rather than later for you.

Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery . xxxx

  • Hi Granny 59

Many thanks for your kind words. I'm home now 2 days post surgery and all seems well as far. Apart from a sore throat and indigestion (which is a normal side effect from anaesthetic). Resting, healing and looking forward to the New Year and next steps. Best wishes.

  • Tessdog,  I'm so pleased for you that you got the operation before Christmas, that's one hurdle climbed over.  Look after yourself now and rest.  Enjoy the festive season if you celebrate it.  Take care hon.
