My husband was diagnosed with stomach cancer in February and only offered palliative treatment. He was alright until he had radiotherapy two months ago. Now he has lost an awful lot of weight and is very weak . He finds eating very difficult as the food does not seem to go down. I have tried so many things to try to put on weight but all of them are unappetising to him and he has more or less force himself to eat a very small amount. He is obsessed with thinking about what he can eat and always says he must eat. He was always a strong character who was always in control of himself and could make decisions with confidence. It is difficult for him to accept he cannot do all the things he used to . He gets breathless and is unable to do anything other than sitting down and occasionally napping. What can I do to help him emotionally. I feel so helpless . He knows that I am there with him and going through it with him .I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June and had a mastectomy in July. I have made a good recovery and almost back to normal. It seems hard that for my husband there is no cure . We say all the time that we must be positive but there are times when being positive is difficult. .
Hi Coral
It must be very hard for both of you trying to find things that your husband finds appetising. I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also pop this post in the carers only group, which I can see you've joined, as I'm sure you'll find others in a similar situation who may be able to offer some ideas and support.
