Hi

new on here. I had stage 1c cancer last year and had 6 rounds of chemotherapy, ending last October. Has anyone found they have long lasting side effects of chemo?

I have done really well in my recovery, and cancer free hurray!! But I find myself feeling suddenly rather tired, even now. Working full time now but I am drained by 5pm. Is this normal? Am I normal? If anyone is out there...

  • Hi , the recovery from chemo can take much longer than you would think...... but not everyone will be the same.

As each type of chemo can be rather different so you may want to put up a post in the Ovarian cancer group (That i see you have joined and posted in) as this will help you compare like with like cancers and treatments.

I had over 750 hrs of chemo along with other treatments for my blood cancer and my recovery was a good 18 months.

You may find it helpful to make a cuppa and have a look at this great paper After Treatment Finishes - Then What? by Dr Peter Harvey as it highlights the post treatment milestones.

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply. It is kind of you to share the paper with me. Will try to be more patient with myself.  My Dad suffered from blood cancer, years ago when there were few treatments. We live in amazing times and i wish you well. Do you feel you have got through recovery?

  • I am 7 years out from my last treatment and 6 years in remission. Yes, I have had and still have some challenging post treatment health ‘left overs’ but I am living the dream…… (See my story)
